The Socrates Café A Philosophical Discussion Group The St. Tammany Parish Library is proud to present The Socrates Café. What is Socrates Café? When was the last time you could discuss your thoughts openly and honestly with others? Have you ever questioned society and its assumptions or your own? Do you like to have a good discussion without fear of having a different opinion? This is Socrates Café. Socrates Café, technically, is a book written by Chris Phillips, author and co-founder of The Society for Philosophical Inquiry. He developed the idea of Socrates Café to do as Socrates did, bring philosophy to the everyday individual. Philosophy is not only for the highly intellectual person or for people who seem to know a lot about everything. Philosophy is the "love and pursuit of wisdom by intellectual means and moral self-discipline" according to the American Heritage dictionary. Socrates Café is a group of people who like to talk, who come from all lifestyles, all nationalities, all religions, all political views, and both genders. Everyone is welcome to join the discussion! Meeting Information:
The event is free and open to the public, and registration is requested, as space is limited. To find out more about the Socrates Café, library locations, or library sponsored adult programs, visit our website www.sttammany.lib.la.us.
