Free Self-Paced Computer Skills Classes at the Library!

Have you ever wanted to learn about using the computer, but need to progress at your own pace? The St. Tammany Parish Library would like to help you! Bill Larsen-Ruffin, Head of the Reference Department, will hold free self-paced computer skills improvement classes at the Causeway,  and Slidell branch libraries. The computer sessions will teach participants how to use LearningExpress Library’s database to improve computer skills. The computer skills classes will take place at the following libraries:

• Slidell Branch, 555 Robert Blvd. on Monday, January 14 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and from 10:10 a.m. to 11:10 a.m. Call 646-6470 to register.

• Causeway Branch, 3457 Hwy 190 on Monday, January 14 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and from 3:10 p.m. to 4:10 p.m. Call 626-9779 to register.

In the following months, the classes will be repeated at libraries throughout the parish.

Larsen-Ruffin said, "Ever take a class where the teacher was too slow or too fast, or where you wanted some of the instruction to be repeated, but there wasn't time?  This is not a problem with self-paced instruction, since you are in control. We will walk you through the LearningExpress login process and let you experience whichever computer tutorial you would like to explore." 

With LearningExpress Library's Popular Software Tutorials, computer users can:

• Have access to self-paced computer software application tutorials, from basic to advanced levels, for the most commonly used applications and operating systems

• Get a competitive advantage in the workplace or job search process by becoming proficient in office and desktop application functions

• Rapidly progress through fully interactive multimedia programs that include sound, animation, and visual demonstration, for easy learning

• Use self-assessments, quizzes, hands-on practice lab simulations, and interactive video content for better understanding of material

• Access resources anytime and from anywhere with an Internet connection

Classes are open to individuals who possess rudimentary computer skills.  Two identical one-hour sessions will be offered each day and participants must register for either of the one-hour sessions.

The event is free and open to the public, and registration is required. Seating space is limited to 10 adults. Please stop by or call the branch library listed above.
