How to Participate in the Summer Reading Program

Between May 20 and July 9, pick up your reading log at any branch of the St. Tammany Parish Library. Use your reading log to keep track of how much time you spend reading.

Children from Birth to 7 Years Old

If you're not reading on your own yet, ask someone to read aloud to you for at least 12 hours during the summer, within the program timeline.
If you can read on your own, read for at least 12 hours during the summer, within the program timeline. You do not have to read all 12 hours in one day. Read at least 15 minutes a day. Spread out the fun!
You may combine reading on your own and having someone read aloud to you.
Once you've reached your reading goal (on or after June 20) return to the library to collect your certificate of achievement and prize.

Children from 7 to 11 Years Old

Read for at least 12 hours during the summer, within the program timeline. You can read anything you want to read. You do not have to read all 12 hours in one day. Read at least 15 minutes a day. Spread out the fun!

Also, if you want, you can earn the "Compass and Map" patch by reading at least 5 books about another country. They can be folktales, non-fiction books, cookbooks, craft books, biographies, or fiction books that take place in a foreign country.
