The Friends of the Slidell Library, a 501c (3) organization, founded in 1976, will celebrate their 38th anniversary in 2014. FSL expanded their scope of coverage in 2011 and now provides support to the Slidell, Lacombe, and Pearl River Branch Libraries. FSL raises funds through the sale or silent auction of books, and a variety of other items.
Recent purchases with FSL funds include: artwork for the Slidell and Pearl River Branch
Libraries, magazine and newspaper rack for the Pearl River Branch Library, partial funding of a new circulation desk for the Pearl River Branch Library, and a performance by the Don Vappie Jazz Quartet for the Pearl River Branch Library, supplies to maintain the Herb Garden located on the grounds of the Slidell Branch Library, 150 copies of the publication Book Pages for free distribution in the Slidell, Pearl River, and Lacombe Branch Libraries.
All FSL activities are performed by FSL member volunteers. Please consider joining the Friends of the Slidell Library and help us provide support to our branch libraries. Friends of the Slidell Library Calendar
Meetings-The Friends of the Slidell Library meet on the first Tuesday of each month at the Slidell Branch Library beginning at 6:30 p.m. Meetings are open to the public and visitors are always welcome. Occasionally, meetings are held in the Lacombe and Pearl River Branch Libraries. The 2014 meeting schedule is as follows: January 7, February 4, March 11, April 1 (Pearl River Branch Library), May 6, June 3, July 1(Lacombe Branch Library), August 5, September 2, October 7, November 4, and December 2.
Friends of the Slidell Library Used Book Sales 2014
All book sales are held in the meeting room of the Slidell Branch Library, 555 Robert Blvd. Sales take place over a two day period (Friday-Saturday) and begin with a member’s preview sale on Friday evening from 5-8 pm and a public sale on Saturday from 9-3 pm. Book sale prices range from .10- $3.00. Memberships and renewals are always available at the door. Annual FSL membership dues begin at $5.00 for individuals and $8.00 for families (parents and minor children in the same household). Life memberships for one person are $150.00. All monies received from sales help to provide support to the Slidell, Lacombe, and Pearl River Branch Libraries.

Friends of the Slidell Library to Hold Silent Auctions in 2014
Silent Auctions will be held every four weeks in the Slidell Branch Library display cases adjacent to the staff workroom on the meeting side of the branch building. Silent Auction items will include books and some non-book items, which have been selected from donated items over the past few years. All the items are pre-owned and are in good to excellent condition. They have been selected for inclusion in the silent auctions due to their subject matter, interest of possible collectors, uniqueness, and local interest. Most of the silent auctions will be organized by subject matter or theme of the auction items.
Tentative auction subject matter/themes for 2014 include: Louisiana and the South, Cookbooks, Pets and Animals, Popular Culture, and World Wars.
All silent auction items have minimum bids and minimum bid increments of $1.00. Bids are placed in person by using the bid book located at the Circulation Desk and high bidders do not have to be present at the end of the auction. Please note that auction items are described in detail inside the bid book and that library staff members are not permitted to open the display cases to allow bidders to physically inspect the items for bid. High bidders will be notified by telephone or email and must pick up items within 7 days or the item will default to the next highest bidder. All monies raised help to provide support to the Slidell, Lacombe, and Pearl River Branch Libraries.
Second Saturday Special Sales (SSSSales)
Second Saturday Special Sales (SSSSales) are held on the second Saturday of each month from 10 – 2 pm inside the center entrance foyer at 555 Robert Blvd. These sales feature several hundred pre-owned items on a particular subject or theme. Past Second Saturday Special Sales have included newer fiction titles for adults, teens, and children, arts and crafts books and magazines, cookbooks, vintage books, Louisiana and the south, gardening books and magazines,
Books and DVDs related to classic television series. Item prices are fixed and are as follows: hardback books $3.00 each, soft cover books $2.00 each, mass market paperback books $1.00 each, magazines 4 for $1.00, DVDs $2.00 per disk, and children’s books $1.00 each.
