“Lisabeth Millard Scholarship”

The Friends of the Library of West St. Tammany Lisabeth Millard Scholarship was established to enhance community knowledge of all resources provided by the library system and to generate a continuing interest in its services.

The total value of the scholarship is $2000.00 over a continuous four year period of study and is open to graduating high school seniors or equivalent who are serviced by the Library Districts of St. Tammany Parish. The deadline to apply for this Scholarship is April 1, 2017.

Booksale: Friends of the Library

Friends of the Library is an all volunteer, non-profit organization whose proceeds support the St. Tammany Parish Library.  The Friends of the Library conducts a monthly book sale in the book room located at 106 Jahncke Ave. (Hadden Hall).

Silent Auction

1. The auction will begin the 15th of a month and end the 14th of the next month.
2.  The Silent Auction offers a sample of books and other items found at the monthly book sale.
3.  All items have been donated, are pre-owned and in excellent condition.
4.  All items have a minimum bid with minimum bids increasing in increments of $0.50.
5.  Bids are placed in person at the circulation desk of the Covington Branch. (Ask for the Silent Auction notebook.)
6.  High bidders do not have to be present to win and will be notified by telephone.
7.  Payment may be made in either cash or check.
8.  Make checks payable to Friends of the Library.

Membership Application / Renewal

The Friends of the Slidell Library, a 501c (3) non-profit organization, founded in 1976, will celebrate their 41st anniversary in 2017.  FSL expanded their scope of coverage in 2011 and 2015 and now provides support to the Slidell, Lacombe, South Slidell, and Pearl River Branch Libraries.  FSL raises funds through sales and silent auctions of used books, media items, and a variety of other items.
Recent purchases with FSL funds include:  artwork for the Slidell and Pearl River Branch Libraries, magazine and newspaper rack for the Pearl River Branch Library, partial funding of a new circulation desk for the Pearl River Branch Library, supplies to maintain the Herb Garden located on the grounds of the Slidell Branch Library, funds to support the Herb Fest which is co-sponsored with the St. Tammany Master Gardeners, 150 copies of the publication Book Pages for free distribution in the Slidell, Pearl River, South Slidell, and Lacombe Branch Libraries, installation of a shade sail over the table on the grounds of the Slidell Branch Library, a new exterior book return for the Lacombe Branch Library, and an interactive play wall for the Children’s Area in the South Slidell Branch.

Friends of the Slidell Library Calendar

Meetings-Meetings-The Friends of the Slidell Library meet on the first Tuesday of each month at the Slidell Branch Library beginning at 6:30 p.m.  Meetings are open to the public and visitors are always welcome.  Occasionally, meetings are held in the Lacombe, South Slidell, and Pearl River Branch Libraries.  The 2017 meeting schedule is as follows:  January 3, February 7, March 7, April 4 (Pearl River Branch Library), May 2, June 6, July 11 (Lacombe Branch Library), August 1, September 5, October 3, November 5, December 5 (South Slidell Branch Library).


FSL Book Sale

Friends of the Slidell Library Used Book Sales 2017

All book sales are held in the meeting room of the Slidell Branch Library, 555 Robert Blvd.  Sales take place over a two-day period (Friday-Saturday) and begin with a member’s preview sale on Friday evening from 5-8 pm and a public sale on Saturday from 9-3 pm.  Book sale prices range from .10- $3.00.  Memberships and renewals are always available at the door.  Annual FSL membership dues begin at $5.00 for individuals and $8.00 for families (parents and minor children in the same household). Life memberships for one person are $150.00.  All monies received from sales help to provide support to the Slidell, Lacombe, South Slidell, and Pearl River Branch Libraries.

Friends of the Slidell Library to Hold Silent Auctions in 2017

Silent Auctions will be held every four weeks in the Slidell Branch Library display cases adjacent to the staff workroom on the meeting room side of the branch building.  Silent Auction items will include books and some non-book items, which have been selected from donated items over the past few years.  All the items are pre-owned and are in good to excellent condition.  They have been selected for inclusion in the silent auctions due to their subject matter, interest of possible collectors, uniqueness, and local interest.  Most of the silent auctions will be organized by subject matter or theme of the auction items.  Tentative auction subject matter/themes for 2017 include: Louisiana and the South, Cookbooks, the American Frontier, Popular Culture, History, Biography, and World Wars.

All silent auction items have minimum bids and minimum bid increments of $1.00.  Bids are placed in person by using the bid book located at the Circulation Desk and high bidders do not have to be present at the end of the auction.  Please note that auction items are described in detail inside the bid book and that library staff members are not permitted to open the display cases to allow bidders to physically inspect the items for bid.  High bidders will be notified by telephone or email and must pick up items within 7 days or the item will default to the next highest bidder.  All monies raised help to provide support to the Slidell, Lacombe, South Slidell, and Pearl River Branch Libraries.

Second Saturday Special Sales (SSSSales)

Second Saturday Special Sales (SSSSales) are held on the second Saturday of each month from 10 – 1 p.m. inside the Slidell Branch Library at 555 Robert Blvd.  These sales feature several hundred pre-owned items on a particular subject or theme.  Past Second Saturday Special Sales have included newer fiction titles for adults, teens, and children, arts and crafts books and magazines, cookbooks, vintage books, Louisiana and the south, gardening books and magazines, and books and DVDs related to classic television series.  Item prices are fixed and are as follows:  hardback books $3.00 each, soft cover books $2.00 each, mass market paperback books $1.00 each, magazines 4 for $1.00, DVDs $2.00 per disk, and children’s books $1.00 each.
