Driving Directions: From Mandeville, take either Hwy 59 or 190 north to I-12 and head west toward Hammond. Take the Hwy 21 exit north to Covington. Turn right on 21st Ave, the branch is on the left. From Slidell, take I-12 and head west to the Hwy 21 exit. Services and Collections: Available for public use are 23 personal computers (with Internet), a black & white laser printer ($ .10 per page), a color laser printer ($1.00 per page) and 4 scanners. The Electronic Resource Center houses an extensive collection of computer software applications such as office applications, desktop publishing and tutorials. Software includes Microsoft Office, Microsoft Publisher, Print Shop, Paint Shop, Test Preparation (SAT, ACT, LSAT, etc.) and Math and Language Tutorials (French, Spanish, German, etc.). Also in the collection is Family Tree Maker and Family Search and many of the accompanying data discs. Introduction to Computers and Beginner's Internet classes are offered free of charge. Branch History: St. Tammany Parish Library's first all electronic branch, The Electronic Resource Center (ERC), opened on June 1, 1999, in the parish's new Department of Health and Hospitals building on Koop Drive in Mandeville. The mission was to increase access to electronic resources via computer and the Internet. An extensive collection of genealogy CD-ROM discs were also acquired. The Electronic Resource Center closed at the Koop Drive location and relocated to the Covington Branch and Library Headquarters where it re-opened on June 26, 2002. | |
