Why do we have assignment alerts?  Two reasons:

1. The main reason is to make sure all students have a chance to get to the materials they need for their assignments.  If a few students are able to check out the bulk of the materials we have before the other students can come to the library, this causes problems for those other students.  If we know ahead of time what materials are needed we can temporarily change the length of the check-out period, or even put items on reserve so they have to be used in the library.   This makes access to resources more equal.

2. Secondarily, if a student comes to the library and fails to bring the class assignment, we can look it up for them.  Then we can more effectively help them locate pertinent materials.

Each assignment, with a list of appropriate library resources, will be posted on our web site for teachers and students.
