Introduction to Genealogy

Ashley Biggs, Genealogy Librarian at the St. Tammany Parish Library, will present an “Introduction to Genealogy” designed for anyone beginning family history research. The class will be offered on three occasions: from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 16, at the Causeway Branch, 3457 Hwy 190, Mandeville, 985-626-9779; from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, March 18, at the Covington Branch, 310 West 21st Ave, Covington, 985-893-6280; and from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20, at the Slidell Branch, 555 Robert Blvd, Slidell, 985-646-6470.
Biggs holds a Master of Science in Library and Information Science, specializing in archiving and records management. Biggs comments, "I love hosting the introduction classes at St. Tammany Parish Library. We always have a lot of fun! Also, I think when you're just starting out, it is important to know that the library and the genealogical community have the tools and resources you need. We're always happy to help!"
Program participants will learn:
How to begin genealogy research
Where to find the library’s genealogy collection
How to use Family Search, the largest genealogy collection in the world, provided by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
How to use Ancestry Library Edition, a genealogy database open to St. Tammany Parish Library users researching from inside the library
The event is free and open to the public. Registration is recommended and seating space is limited to adults. Light refreshments will be available. Please stop by or call the branch hosting the program to register.
