Healthy Hint for the New Year:
Grow Spring Vegetables from Seed

Have you promised yourself to be healthier in the New Year? Here is a hint: Grow your own vegetables from seed. You will exercise while planting and nurturing them, and once they are grown, you will be eating nutritious, home-grown veggies.

Two identical programs about growing Spring Vegetables will be presented by Dr. Gerard Ballanco on the east and west sides of the parish.

  • The Slidell Branch session will be held in the meeting room, 555 Robert Blvd., Slidell 985-646-6470 on Saturday, January 12 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
  • The Causeway Branch session will be held in the meeting room, 3457 Hwy 190, Mandeville 985-626-9779 on Wednesday, January 16 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Dr. Gerard Ballanco is a retired pediatrician from New Orleans who is now a Master Gardener living in Folsom. He is graciously sharing his knowledge and experience with the community by presenting this program.

Container-gardening guru Jeanne Kelley states, “Homegrown food makes even the simplest dishes special because nothing tastes better than fresh.”

The event is free and open to the public, and registration is recommended. Light refreshments will be available. Seating space is limited to adults. Call the branch to register, or register online at the following web address: http://register.stpl.us/evanced/lib/eventcalendar.asp.
